Define what you want from the audit

The more specific you can be about what YOU want from an audit, the more value you are likely to get. In this lesson two contrasting examples are presented.

Start by using the checklist below the video to identify your reasons for undertaking an audit.

  • To reduce energy costs
  • To reduce GHG emissions
  • Because the government is paying for some/all of the energy audit
  • To get an energy efficiency professional to provide a list of energy savings measures, the costs and benefits of each measure accurately quantified.
  • To come up with next year’s energy efficiency budget.
  • To request a new budget item –  energy efficiency.
  • To win corporate support for energy efficiency by presenting a professionally undertaken energy audit.
  • To help tenants (if you are funding an audit for your tenants) save energy
  • To help tax payers save energy (if you are a government funding energy audits)
  • To help community facilities save energy (if you are a government funding energy audits)
  • To identify how to reduce peak loads to enable a facility extension without the need to upgrade the capacity of our electrical supply.
  • To identify the greatest possible savings that can be achieved within next year’s allocated budget (or the budget allocated for the next 2 or 3 years) for energy efficiency upgrades.
  • To help guide a scheduled major refurbishment/equipment upgrade of your facility, to ensure that it is as energy efficient as possible.
