Course Purpose

This course is presented by the Efficiency Valuation Organization, and is aimed at candidates wishing to undertake the Performance Measurement and Verification Analyst (PMVA) training.

Many people undertaking the PMVA course find the statistics module of the course the hardest part of the course. Yet statistics is vitally important when undertaking Measurement and Verification (M&V) of energy savings.

As a result this introductory course has been developed.

Completion of this course will provide you a refresher on stats and give you the background in the basic concepts that you need in order to be able to understand the stats training in the PMVA course.

Please note that this course doesn’t cover the statistical component of the PMVA training. Its purpose is to make sure you have the basic stats pre-requisite knowledge required to complete the PMVA training. Without this pre-requisite knowledge you may find it hard to understand some or much of what is presented in the stats module of the PMVA training. And this in turn will limit your ability to be able to apply stats to Measurement and Verification.

What’s involved in completing the course

This course has six lessons. At the completion of each lesson you will be required to complete and pass a quiz, before moving onto the next module. You can complete each quiz as many times as you like.

You may already understand some of the material. In this case you may, if you wish, go straight to the quiz. However if you don’t pass the quiz,it would be advisable to go through the training material, prior to retaking the quiz .

After you take a quiz, if you do it in excel, I suggest saving the excel file. You may find it useful later, and in the last lesson the quiz refers back to some of the earlier lessons.

After completion of the course you will be issued a certificate of completion. Depending on where you undertaken your PMVA training, you may be requested to provide a copy of this certificate of completion prior to undertaking your PMVA training.

You have 3 months from the date of enrolment to complete the course.

A survey of roughly 50 past students showed that most of them took between 3 to 6 hours to complete this course.
