Power Factor Correction Online Course

Cut energy waste, eliminate utility penalties, and unlock hidden electrical capacity with this clear, hands-on Power Factor Correction online course.

Introduction

Low power factor quietly inflates electricity bills and ties up capacity that could serve new loads. This power factor correction online course distils day-to-day field experience into short, on-demand lessons. You’ll learn why power factor drops, how to match corrective technologies to real-world loads, and what checks keep improvements on track after commissioning.

Course Description

This Power Factor Correction (PFC) course is designed for electrical professionals, facility managers, and engineers looking to reduce energy waste, avoid utility penalties, and unlock hidden capacity in their electrical systems. Through a clear, structured journey, you’ll learn how to analyze power factor, diagnose the root causes of poor performance, and implement the right correction strategies using both passive and active technologies.

Starting with the fundamentals—real, reactive, and apparent power—you’ll build a strong technical foundation before diving into hands-on diagnostics, cost-impact calculations, and technology selection. You’ll work through real-world case studies, interpret utility bills, and learn how to use power quality tools to identify phase shift and harmonics. The course then walks you through specification, installation, and maintenance best practices to ensure long-term, reliable results.

Whether you manage an industrial site, a commercial building, or a mixed-load environment, this course will help you turn complex power factor challenges into clear, actionable steps. By the end, you’ll be confident in your ability to reduce electrical losses, improve system reliability, and justify PFC investments with data-backed decisions.

What you’ll learn

By the end of this power factor correction course, you’ll be equipped to improve power quality, reduce energy waste, and unlock hidden capacity in your electrical systems. Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • Power Factor Basics: Understand how kW, kVAR, and kVA relate to identify inefficiencies.

  • Cost of Low PF: Recognize how poor power factor increases costs and strains infrastructure.

  • Diagnosis Skills: Pinpoint whether harmonics or phase shift is hurting your power factor.

  • PFC Technologies: Compare capacitor-based and active systems to choose the right tool.

  • Solution Selection: Use a decision matrix to match PFC strategies to your site’s needs.

  • Specification & Procurement: Write clear specs to get safe, effective, and compliant gear.

  • Installation & Verification: Follow tested steps to ensure reliable performance and savings.

  • Maintenance Planning: Keep systems running longer with preventive checks and monitoring.

  • Case Study Insights: Learn from real projects to avoid pitfalls and maximize ROI.

  • Action Plan: Leave with a step-by-step roadmap to fix and maintain power factor issues.

Who is this course for

This Power Factor Correction Online Course are for Plant and facility engineers approving electrical upgrades; consulting engineers who need a refresher on modern PFC options; electricians and energy managers responsible for reducing kVA charges; and graduate engineers ready to move from textbook theory to practical application. A working knowledge of basic three-phase power is assumed—nothing more advanced.

Certification

Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion to showcase your commitment to professional development. This certificate can be added to your resume or LinkedIn profile to highlight your dedication to thriving in the sustainability field.

Useful for troubleshooting power quality

After attending this course, I started to study some equipment and realized my factory had some pumps with leading power factor reading on the power meters, despite been inductive loads. It was a mystery until the electrician opened the panels and we realized there was passive harmonic filters installed and no one had checked whether they were commissioned properly. Highly recommended!
